Drawing Techniques: a Guide
Function: Presentation Drawing
At first drawings were regarded as nothing more than working tools and even finished modelli had no value except as records. The modello itself might be presented to the patron for approval, or, in the case of a particularly important or competitive commission, artists might execute an even more refined presentation drawing after the modello. Artists also occasionally made these carefully finished drawings as gifts for important patrons, colleagues, or friends.  This is the prototype of the drawing made purposely for sale.
