Drawing Techniques: a Guide
Process: Incision
After completing a preparatory drawing, the artist transferred the image to another sheet, in order to work it up to the next stage. Following one method he traced the image by incising the outlines with a stylus. Sometimes the verso of a drawing was rubbed with red or black chalk in order to make a more visible transfer. This was especially favored by printmakers when they transferred the outline of a finished modello to the printing plate.
