At this point the artist directed his primary attention to the material world. While for some details he might draw on his stock of nature studies, he resorted to human models for his figures. An artist would make specialized studies for bodies, limbs, hands, heads, and drapery. Beginning in the late fifteenth century artists began to base their landscapes on views and details studies drawn directly after nature in the open air. | |
